Photograph caption dated June 5, 1965 reads, "A penny a day - Mrs. Maurice Person, Sepulveda, and Mrs. Parker Culbertson, Panorama City, (right) plunk their coins into mite boxes held by the Rev. Lowell McDowell. The women at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 14646 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, have been putting coins in everytime [sic] they prayed for the last six months. The boxes were collected ascencion day. Last year the United Thank Offering for the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles amounted to $53,169. That's a lot of praying. Money benefits Episcopal missions."
