Description
F. F. Butter grocery store, southeast corner of San Carlos and Orchard Street (now Almaden Avenue). Reproduction of original photo taken between 1895-1900. Donated by a descendant of the Butters, who ran the store. From left to right: Grandpa Butter, Grandma Butter, daughter Olga in black blouse, and Uncle Franklin A. Butter with bicycle. According to the donor, Grandma Butter and Olga canned fruit and vegetables, while Grandpa soldered the lids. Later Olga married William H. Jung upstairs above the store. The photo was featured in the July 1991 issue of the San Jose Historical Museum newsletter.
