Description
“The primary school, built 19-. Assembly hall on right. Experimental coffee in foreground.” Exterior view of the school built at Iteri, Chogoria, when the school was approved by the Education Department. The foundation stone was laid by Chief Ng’entu and it was opened in 1937, consisting of five classrooms and an assembly hall. Dr Irvine attempted to introduce coffee to the area as a cash crop. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1947 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
