Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated September 6, 1961 partially reads, "A screaming woman was dragged from her car today and shot to death on a North Hollywood back street by a man who critically wounded himself with the same gun. Mrs. Dorothy Connally, 44, was pronounced dead on arrival at Sun Valley Receiving Hospital. Police said her assailant, Homer Winegarner, 50, was in critical condition at General Hospital from a bullet wound near his heart. The shootings occurred about 6:35 a.m. in the 7200 block of Hinds avenue." Photograph caption reads, "Winegarner helped into ambulance.
