Description
This watercolor depicts a woman displaying an outfit that is a picturesque combination of historic styles from the early 1800s with early 1900 styles. She wears a sheer, white, floor length dress that is tightly bound at the waist by a wide sash or bodice of golden-yellow fabric. The dress has a yoke, with a narrow white ruffle at the yoke seam, and a simple v neck. The full sleeves are elbow length and gathered to create a soft and light effect. The bodice and skirt of the dress are both softly gathered, and another narrow white ruffle edges the hem. She wears long greenish-grey gloves. Her black hat is wide brimmed and has a black feather plume, and she wears her hair in gentle waves and curls, held back with a black bow at the neck. She carries a wide flat basket over her arm filed with many yellow flowers, implying a spring or summer outfit.
