Description
Three-quarters length portrait, holding violin.
2012-1289.
Born in 1845 in Prague, Poland to Jan and Josephin Kopta. Concert violinist, studied at the Conservatorium of Music, Prague. Toured the United States beginning in 1866. From 1869 to 1872 was teacher with the Philadelphia Musical Acadmy and concertmaster for the Philharmonic Orchestra. Married Flora P. Wilson in 1872. Came to California in 1900 and lived on Kopta Ranch, Corning, played and taught in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Died in 1916 in Venice, California.
