Description
This 1939 photograph captures a busy scene on K Street, near its intersection with Tenth Street. In the foreground, street car 15, carded number five, makes its way west while two pedestrians look for a sidewalk. Hanging above number 15 is a banner, touting the arrival of the late summer’s California State Fair. At this time, route number five ran from the Southern Pacific Railroad depot at Third and I Streets to the California State Fairgrounds at Fourth Avenue and Stockton Boulevard, and back. On either side of K Street are several period automobiles, pedestrians and businesses, including the Hotel Sequoia at 911 K Street and the Fox Senator Theater at 912 K Street.
