Description
Trolley car #110 in front of Trinity Church. The first San Jose trolley car ran on March 16, 1888. Early cars were powered by underground electric rails that shorted frequently. In 1890, the trolleys converted to overhead power. At the height of trolley service, San Jose had over eighty miles of track, with another 46 miles of track between San Jose and Santa Clara. The trolleys ran until 1938, when buses began to overtake trolleys in popularity.
