Description
Photograph of an electric dredge at work in Playa Del Rey, ca.1937. The large machine sits on a rocky hill near the smooth water of a flood control channel. Its long metal arm stitches over the water and a robe attaches a large metal basket. A group of four men is seen in front of the control room on the left side of the image. "Monighan Drag Line Dredge, said to be the largest mobile dredge in the world, is shown at work on the $11 million Bolona Channel flood control government project to carry run-off of rain water from the motion picture city, Culver City, CA. The channel when complete will be 400' wide and 3 miles long".
