Description
Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman speaks on the subject "the future of capitalism" at the first annual Pepperdine University Associates Dinner at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles on February 9, 1977. The event also celebrated the fortieth anniversary of Pepperdine University. Mr. Friedman's appearance at the event was picketed by demonstrators protesting his 1975 visit to Chile, during which he advised the Pinochet government on economic policy. Mr. Friedman begins his remarks by addressing this situation, following an introduction by Leonard K. Firestone, businessperson and Pepperdine benefactor. Mr. Friedman's main address (10:00) is about the future of capitalism and civil and personal liberties, which is followed by a question and answer period (46:00). The recording concludes with closing remarks by Pepperdine President William S. Banowsky (56:30) and a closing prayer by Chancellor M. Norvel Young.
