Description
Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989
College basketball fans knew all about Michael Jordan: as a freshman at the University of North Carolina, his last-second shot in the 1982 NCAA Finals won the national title for the Tar Heels. The rest of the world discovered Jordan--and his signature tongue-waggling--at the Olympics, when he helped the Bobby Knight-coached team win the gold medal. In 1992, at the Barcelona Olympics, Jordan would win gold again with a squad of superstars known as "The Dream Team." In this photo, Michael goes to the basket against Yunlong Huang in the first-half action of U.S. vs. China at the 1984 Olympic Games. Photo dated: July 30, 1984.
