Description
Breast drill, commonly known as an "eggbeater drill," used by Elwood Hiatt, who worked for a company that did work on the Winchester House. From donor: "The carpentry tool was handed down from Glenn Hiatt side of the family who were builders in the Santa Clara Valley. The family builds homes and worked on the Winchester home. Glenn told me a story when he was a child and he went to work on the Winchester home which was down the road. Glenn family lived off San Carlos, between Meridian and Bascom. I asked him once, 'They said Sara was crazy' and Glenn was upset and said 'Sarah was not crazy, she was different' and that she kept families working on her home when there was no work. 'She was a good lady, I met her while my father worked on her home. I was just a kid about 9 years old. We were on a buckboard wagon with the big tools box in it'."
