Description
Note: Schultze neg 6. (T. Garrard). - Cf. QW-30.011.0046. (RI). Note translation: Schultze neg 6. (T. Garrard).- Cf. QW-30.011.0046. (RI). - NB Abokobi is one of the few communities in south-eastern Ghana founded purely by the Basel Mission - i.e. Not founded as an additional quarter of an already existing indigenous community. The chief was effectively chairman of the presbyters of church elders - an office which seems to have become hereditary in the male line, with time. So it is quite interesting to find this official referred to as a "king" in this caption pre-1914 (PJ 03.2001).
