Bill Honig, who was later elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1982 and served three terms, campaigns for office. Caption: "Louis 'Bill' Honig stresses 'back to basics' in his campaign." Formerly a teacher and school superintendent, Honig served on the State Board of Education and the State's UC Board of Regents. He has worked in a variety of education nonprofits including CORE (cofounder, Consortium on Reading Excellence) and founded Honig Vineyard and Winery in the Napa Valley.
