1 image. Miami colder than Los Angeles, 19 March 1952. Henry B. Bakes (Head of Operations for Los Angeles International Airport) B. J. Lockwood (Bakes' Assistant) Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Curry (Mr. Curry is Director for Dade County Airport Authority) Mr. Leonard Thomson (Mr. Curry's associate). Supplementary material reads: "From News Bureau, Pan American Airways. Miami colder than Los Angeles, concede Miami Airport Officials. When A. B. Curry, President of the Airport Operators' Council and his associate, Leonard Thomson, arrived here (Tuesday evening) via Mexicana de Aviacion -- Pan American Clipper from Florida and Mexico, they admitted to greeters that Miami, their hometown , was in a 'deep freeze' as compared with Los Angeles weather. Mr. Curry who is the Director of the Dade County, Miami Airport Authority, is here to preside over the Fifth Annual Convention of the Airport Council which begins in Hollywood Thursday and terminates next Saturday noon". Supplementary material continues: "The meeting, comprised of representatives of Forty major airports of the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, will consider operational safety, transport schedule regularity and matters pertaining to military and private flying. Greeting the visitors are, left to right: Henry G. Bakes, head of Operations for Los Angeles International Airport, his assistant, B. J. Lockwood. Expressing their surprise at the mildness of L.A. weather are Mrs. and Mr. A. B. Curry with, directly behind, Mr. and [Mrs.] Leonard Thomson".
