Description
Shown is a photograph of the Sacramento S.P.R.S.I. (Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel) Drill Team No. 12 circa 1933. In 1933, the S.P.R.S.I. Drill Team won a cup in a drill competition against four other teams, celebrating with a picnic in Elverta, California on August 17, 1933. The team participated in a variety of events in the Sacramento region throughout the 1930s. One such event was the George Washington Bi-Centennial Celebration, a parade celebrating the two hundredth anniversary of President George Washington's birthday. The S.P.R.S.I. Drill Team could be seen participating in the parade in a photograph within a Sacramento Bee article published on February 23, 1932. The team was a part of the S.P.R.S.I., a state-wide Portuguese-American society.
