Description
Photograph of the Great Seal of the State of California of 1851. An ancient female soldier in armor with shield and spear is depicted sitting on shore near a bear, a shovel and minor digging with a pick, and a sheaf of wheat. Offshore are several sailing ships. Mountains rise in the distance. Legible writing around the circumference of the round seal reads, "The Great Seal of the State of California", and below a string of stars, "Eureka".
