Description
The Beaumont Land & Water Co. promoted Beaumont as a great agricultural area to grow crops. In 1908, leaders of Southern Pacific Railroad , University of California College of Agriculture, and the State Horticultural Commission joined together and unveiled a plan for a farm demonstration train. California's first demonstration train, which toured Beaumont and the state in 1908-1909, emphasized educating farmers about the benefits of scientific agriculture for their own operations. Lectures, demonstrations and question and answer sessions were given to farmers in an effort to build popular support for the University, the Horticultural Commission and the Railroad.
