Description
The poster prominently features a photographic image of the International Hotel. On the left, there is also a smaller black and white photograph of protesters in gathered below the International Hotel sign. On the right, there is a circular stamp featuring a tiger and a message that reads: "Fight for the International Hotel." The text states, "Asians & Pacific Islanders for Community Empowerment (API-Force) presents: The International Hotel Conference & Symposium, Saturday, August 9, 1997, 12 noon-7:30 pm, Old Cathedral at Saint Mary's, 660 California St., San Francisco, August 4, 1977: San Francisco police forcibly evicted 50 elderly Filipino and Chinese tenants from the International Hotel--the last vestige of what was once a ten-block long Manilatown. The hotel was destroyed in 1979 to make way for a parking lot. It has remained a hole in the ground ever since. Workshops on: Economic justice for immigrants, Gentrification and low-income housing, Youth and police brutality, Race relations in our community. Events included: Banquet honoring our Manongs & Manangs, walking tour of old Manilatown, candlelight vigil at the I-Hotel site, for more information or to volunteer, please call (415) 995-4903." The text on top is written in yellow, the text in the middle is written in black, and the text at the bottom is written in white. The background appears in gradations of orange.
