Description
Two boys lean against the steps up to the platform loaded with boxes and boxes of cantaloupes. A horse drawn wagon of melons is "parked" next to them. The Turlock Shipping & Supply Company was organized and built by O. G. Olson in 1911. The handling and shipping process was transitioning from one farmer dealing with mutiple buyers to all of the farmers working with a few local people who became the "middlemen" in the process. The brick building to the right is the Santos building built by Jesse Santos. In it was a bar (saloon), a Greek restaurant and the first town library.
