Description
Most of the buildings depicted are built of brick rather than wood as required by city ordinances after a large fire in 1910. The Southern Pacific Railroad station on the right is the original one of wood, however across the street the Hultberg & Lane Company building is brick, as is the Hotel Carolyn on the other side of Center Street. Note the fire alarm continues to be the large bell hanging from the white wooden tower. In front of the tower a man is painting a large Turlock sign possibly for the edification of passing train passengers. It reads in part: 1910 Turlock; Four miles paved streets; Electrically lighted; School buildings cost $90,000.00.
