Description
Harper house, located at 225 South River Street in the Nutwood Place neighborhood of Orange, California, ca. 1920. Image shows corner view of French Colonial Revival style house, which was built around 1919 and purchsed by George S. Harper (1871-1957) in July of 1920. A large California sycamore tree is visible to the left of the house. Four figures of the Harper family, a man, a woman, a second woman holding a dog, and a young man are visible on the porch. Harper bought the Independent Orange Growers Association packing house in 1907 and started Harper Fruit Co. when World War I first began. He lived in this house until his death in 1957. In 1964, his widow, Margaret Harper, sold the house to the First Methodist Church of Orange, and the house became the church parsonage and home of Dr. Richard Kendall and family. The church sold the house in 1973. Photographic print B&w 16.5 x 21.5 cm.
