Description
Photos show the Spiegl Foods Company cabbage packing and canning factory near Salinas, California. This photo booklet circa 1940 includes 10 black and white photos stapled between two cardboard covers, with extensive penciled handwritten notes on the back of each photo, by unknown author who worked at the factory. Cover has a handwritten inscription: 'Calif. WW2'. Notes describe the scenes, people and the packing operation. Unique inside view of the factory operation during a time of war, on the factory line and harvesting in the fields. This photo booklet was donated to MCFL by a woman who had worked at the factory. She was given the booklet by a factory coworker.
