Description
A cross section showing only one basal body in two different dikinetids. Cross sections of overlapping microtubular ribbons arising from the dikinetids are seen in the ridges next to the basal body. Parasomal sacs can penetrate the pellicle on both sides of the dikinetids. TEM taken on 6/3/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 TEM operating at 60kV. Neg. 14,800X. Bar = 0.5µm. The negative was printed to paper and the image was scanned with a flatbed scanner to Photoshop. This digitized image is available for qualitative analysis. A raw, unprocessed, high resolution version of this image (CIL:2859) is in the library and available for quantitative analysis.Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections were prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. Additional information is available at (http://www5.pbrc.hawaii.edu/allen/).
