Description
Alfonso García Romero, seventy-one years of age in 2009, describes his experiences as an underground militant during the Francoist period. He was involved in distribution of propaganda (Mundo Obrero), and describes the organization of the Comisiones Obreras. Alfonso was detained in the early 1960s and sentenced to several years of prison. He was first incarcerated at Carabanchel, then at Cáceres. He celebrated the death of Franco with his wife, calling the experience "una alegria inmensa" (an immense joy). He expresses strong support for efforts to restore historical memory of the repression during the Francoist years. He advocates the need for a new truly democratic constitution in Spain
