Description
Fernando Llorente García was born in 1921 in Madrid. Fernando remembers spending most of his childhood in Segovia. He recalls studying art and attending the Universidad Popular (Popular University), where Antonio Machado taught. Fernando tells that he began frequenting the Casa del Pueblo (House of the People) shortly before the start of the Civil War. He recounts joining the Republican Army during the war. Fernando was detained after the end of the war and was imprisoned until 1948. He describes his incarceration in the Porlier, Santa Rita, Carabanchel, Ocaña, and Burgos prisons. Fernando relates that after being released, he became active in the Communist Party of Spain and the Club de Amigos de la UNESCO (Friends of UNESCO Club)
