Description
Thin section of a chloroplast of Arabidopsis thaliana lacking the FZL protein, a member of the dynamin superfamily of proteins. FZL is related to FZO, a protein that mediates fusion between mitochondrial outer membrages in animals and fungi. The characteristic distribution of thylakoids membranes in stacked grana (black arrow) and unstacked stromal regions (white arrows) was disorganized with grana lamellae less uniform in length and stacked in a staggered fashion. Asterisks denote vesicle-like structures that occur in the absence of FZL. The other image in this group (CIL 39125) shows the wildtype structure.
