Description
An image of a dikinetid in cross section near its proximal end. A postciliary ribbon and a transverse ribbon are seen. A short kinetodesmal fiber buds from the side of the kinetid. Coated vesicles or pits are located nearby that are part of the endosomal system. TEM taken on 6/3/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 operating at 60kV. Bar = 0.5µm. The negative was printed to paper and the image was scanned with a flatbed scanner and 0.5µm bar added in Photoshop. This digitized image is available for qualitative analysis. A raw, unprocessed, high resolution version of this image (CIL:2861) is in the library and available for quantitative analysis. Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections were prepared at approximately 75nm thickness.
