Description
What is the filamentous reticulum? When exposed in planar view lying under the ribbed wall, the filamentous reticulum is seen to be composed of a sheet of mutiple interdigitating rows of nodes separated by stippled tripartite ribbons. The nodes are woven together across the stippled ribbon in a zigzag pattern. The nodes appear to lie under the edges of the ribs while the ribbons lie under the ridge itself. This arrangement presumably stabilizes these ribs and prevents their flattening. TEM taken on 7/7/82 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A operating at 75kV. Neg. 14,250X. Bar = 1µm.
