Description
High resolution view of the quadrulus membranelle (4 rows of cilia) in the buccal cavity of Paramecium tetraurelia labelled for tubulin. Microtubules of the axonemes of the cilia and the triplet fibers of the basal bodies are labeled. Ribbons of microtubules arise from the side of the quadrulus next to the cytopharynx and single microtubules are liberally scattered about in this zone. The “sperm-shaped” structures are early endosomes with clathrin coated pits forming the "heads." TEM taken on 7/5/96 by R. Allen with Zeiss 10A operating at 80kV. Neg. 9,780X.
