Description
Detail of fractured early Digestion Vacuole-III membrane showing the many IMPs on the P-fracture faces of the lysosomal membranes that had just fused with the DV. The membrane will smooth out as the phagolysosome expands osmotically. The membrane in the upper right corner has fewer IMPs and may be a remnant of the DV-II membrane. (For relative numbers of IMPs in the different DV stages see Allen and Staehelin, J. Cell Biol. 89:9-20, 1981). TEM taken on 9/27/76 by R. Allen with JEM-100B operating at 80kV. Neg. 31,193X. Bar = 0.2µm. A print of the negative was scanned and processed in Photoshop. This image is best used for qualitative analysis.
