Image on reverse is of an unidentified woman.
Painter John Collier (1850-1934) married two of Aldous Huxley's aunts: first, in 1879, Marian Huxley, and after she died, Ethel Huxley in 1889. He painted a portrait of Aldous Huxley in 1927, which was submitted to the Royal Academy.
"Painted by John Collier, which was accepted by the Hanging Committee after their refusal of a portrait [of] the Sage of the Adelphi by [the same] artist."
