Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Upper photo: View from the north towards of Castle Rock, the Pacific Coast Highway and cliffs. A car is parked on the sand near Castle Rock. Castle rock was leveled in the mid 1950's and is now paved over. Bottom photo: view facing north towards Palisades Park in Santa Monica (upper right) and a broad beach along the waterline at left. Bordering the beach is the two-lane Pacific Coast Highway, and running parallel to the highway are railroad tracks. Several early-model automobiles are parked near the side of the road on the beach. There are steep cliffs at right, and a narrow road climbs up the side of them. There are two piers jutting out into the water at center. The shore juts into the water in the distance, and this land is marked by steep mountains rather than cliffs. Middle photo: View of the lighthouse on the Santa Monica Bay coast. The lighthouse consists of a long rectangular building with a tall tower at left. The lighthouse was built on the site of the former Long Wharf.
