Her daughter, Lillian "Lalla" Vennum, is in the foreground, but her image is blurred and scratched out. Lalla told police she was attacked by members of the K.K.K. and her arm was "branded" with a cross. The attack also involved links to her ex-boyfriend. Related to Los Angeles Times article, "Seek Clew In Girl Branding; Police Hunt Hooded Pair of Mutilators; Fiery Cross Burned Into Flesh of Arm; K.K.K. Warnings Followed by Attack." 29 Jan., 1926: pg.
