This photograph appears with the article “First Los Angeles Boat Show Brings Tang of Seven Seas to Landsmen,” Los Angeles Times, 31 Mar. 1930: 8 About 11 motorboats, speedboats, and canoes on display in large room under ceiling draped with canopies and fringed lights, with about 4 spectators walking among boats. Signs hanging from ceiling read: Calif. Boat & Equipment Co., Dart Runabout Boats; Hill Boat Works, Swanboats, Los Angeles, Swanboats Text from newspaper caption: The latest models in motorized craft, from tiny speedboats and canoes powered by outboard motors to 48-foot cruisers, are displayed by exhibitors at the first Los Angeles Boat Show which opened Saturday at the Ambassador Auditorium. A tang of the Seven Seas has been caught by the exhibitors in their displays. Relics of the old sailing days when buccaneers roved the high seas and the fate of a merchantman depended largely upon luck and the amount of canvas she was able to carry, are ranged alongside the most modern of nautical instruments and equipment. The show will run until Saturday night with an afternoon show opening daily at 2:30 o’clock. Above is a panorama of the interior of the auditorium shortly before the gates were thrown open.
