On June 21, 1935, Vince and Genevieve Barnett were arrested for public intoxication after allegedly tearing down posters in the R.-K.-O. Theater. The Barnetts said the posters were torn down by overzealous fans looking for autographs from their friend Wallace Ford. Genevieve Barnett was acquitted; Vince Barnett was found guilty, but was granted a retrial in October.
Related to "Barnett Retrial's Hour Dooms Dream of Officer," Los Angeles Times, 11 Oct 1935: A12.
The time was 7:34 p.m. as Barnett's trial was at night so him having to appear at trial would not put the film crew's and other actors' jobs on hold.
Vince Barnett (left) and W. R. Wellman stand in a crowded wood-paneled courtroom. The audience section is full. Barnett is talking to Wellman, and is gesturing with his right hand. Wellman is looking directly into the camera and is resting his left hand on the room divider's gate. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling. A wall clock over the door has the time at 7:34. A policeman stands outside the door.
