There is a tarp-covered object in the left foreground, and another behind Mr. West. There are buildings throughout, including one at the left that has signs on it reading, "obscura pavilion" and "store." Other buildings in the background have signs on them that read, "metropole," "bay view," and "Troy laundry." An American flag flies above the "bay view" sign. Nella A. West was H. H. West's sister.
