Photograph of Edward Steinberg crouching on the ground and keeping an eye on the camp stove. He is crouched down on the right, in profile and facing left. To his left, a small portable stove with a stove pipe sits balanced atop rocks. A pan sits on the stove. A table extends horizontally behind the stove and Edward. Pots, pans and a tablecloth sit atop the table. At right, the corner of a tent extends into the frame above Edward. It is supported by ropes and a stick functioning as a post. A canteen hangs from the post.
Text from negative sleeve: 365. Convict Lake. 1918. Schmitz, Scullin, West party. Steinberg, a friend of Harry Schmitz, was a cook, and was moving his lunch counter to Reno, Nevada from Los Angeles in a Chevrolet truck. He did t e[sic] cooking using his lunch wagon outfit. 3 negatives of Edward Steinberg cooking. Harry Schmitz called him "Sir Edward."
