Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Edward Steinberg poses for a photograph while he bends over the camp stove holding a pan. The stove sits on the ground in front of him and the stove pipe rises to the left of him. He holds a pan just over the stove. A kettle sits on the ground to the left of the stove. At right, a cart or wagon (partial view) is parked. A sheet covers the tire and a lantern hangs in the corner of the wagon. A low table extends from behind Edward towards the wagon. Someone stands at the end of the wagon and bends over the table. A box on the ground behind Edward and in front of the wagon reads, "SNOWFLAKE SODAS [...?]." Additional camp gear sits on the ground at right. Text from negative sleeve: 365. Convict Lake. 1918. Schmitz, Scullin, West party. Steinberg, a friend of Harry Schmitz, was a cook, and was moving his lunch counter to Reno, Nevada from Los Angeles in a Chevrolet truck. He did t e[sic] cooking using his lunch wagon outfit. 3 negatives of Edward Steinberg cooking. Harry Schmitz called him "Sir Edward."
