Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph, from left to right, of Mertie Whitaker and Lelia Gillan riding in a carriage. The carriage is viewed from the side and is facing left. Mertie sits on the far side of the carriage and holds the horses reins. Lelia sits on the near side and faces left. A horse walks ahead of the carriage on the left and turns its head downward to the camera. They are stopped in front of a large tree. It appears that the photographer's hands may have blocked the lens on the right side. Text from negative sleeve: 475. Fresno, Calif. 1901. Mertie Whitaker and Lelia Gillan went to Fresno for some purpose, and I went up there while they were there and took the pictures in this and following envelopes: I got a rig at the livery stable and took Mertie and Lelia out for a ride. Two pictures of the rig and the girls. 2 negatives.
