A photograph documenting a mudpot or mud pool bubbling up at Volcano Springs (now Mundo), seen during an inspection trip for the Southern Pacific Railroad. A depression in the mud pool sits in the middle of the image with mud bubbling around it. The shadow of a man is cast at left. Text from negative sleeve: 597. Volcano Springs, Calif. Southern Pacific inspection trip 1899. Two views of the mud volcanoes along side the S.P.R.R. tracks near Volcano Springs. They were mud volcanoes, bubbling all the time, hot water and steam, and a sickening gas.
