Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph, from left to right, of Annie M. Brain and Aileen Brain sitting on a sofa in their home at Ocean Park. They sit at center on the left side of the sofa. Aileen sits on Annie's lap and looks to the camera. Annie holds Aileen on her lap and looks down to her. Newspapers lie flat on the right side of the sofa. Walls at center and right are covered in pictures and artwork. A wide, open doorway is at left through which another room is visible. According to the accompanying negative sleeve, this image was taken around 1895. Aileen (Brain) Davis was born around 1898 or 1899, after when this image was stated to be taken. This image is likely to have been taken at a later date. Text from negative sleeve: 710. Ocean Park, Calif. About 1895. Bob Brain was a clerk in the Maintenance of Way Department, S.P.R.R., Arcade depot, Los Angeles, California. Lived in a little cottage on the beach below the bluff and south of the Arcadia Hotel at Ocean Park. I went down one winter evening with him to go hunting the next day (Sunday) down the beach by Ballona (Now Playa Del Rey). Took my camera along and took a photo of Bob and his only daughter Aileen Brain, and two photos of Mrs Brain and Aileen. Other lady in the photo not now known. Must have been a maid. 3 films
