Description

Photograph of the interior of the Burlington Station for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad designed by Thomas Rogers Kimball and the firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst and White. Inside the classical revival train station, double marble columns stand in the foreground at right. Another marble column stands in the shadows at left with a light fixture attached to a wall in front of it. Beyond the columns, the station opens up to a large lobby. The floor is covered in a mosaic pattern. A large chandelier hangs from the ceiling left-of-center. Handrails surround 2 staircases beneath the chandelier that descend downward. A man stands with his arms crossed to the right of and behind the columns in the foreground. A suitcase sits on the ground in front of him. Other people sit on benches lining the wall at right. A wide entryway stands at the opposite side of the lobby. It has three marble arches supported by marble columns. Text from negative sleeve: 711. East. August-September 1900. Omaha, Neb.
