Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph looking into the Owens River Gorge. It is viewed from the rim of the gorge and looks down into the canyon. The base of the canyon stretches from lower left on an upward angle to the right. The far rim of the canyon stretches horizontally across the image in the distance and mountains stand silhouetted in the far distance. Text from negative sleeve: 1123. Smith West tour August 1913. Sherwin grade. She was sure tough in those days. 1. The Owens River gorge beside the road. A regular grand canyon. 2. We meet George Watterson of Bishop coming up the grade with another Buick, but he had run out of water and was boiling good and plenty. H.H.West giving Watterson water from water bag.
