Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of a horse-drawn carriage carrying 3 passengers stopped in front of a corner of the San Gabriel Mission. The carriage and its horses are viewed from the side in the near distance and face towards the left. Grassy ground stretches across the foreground on a slight angle. Beyond it, a drive runs parallel to the grass. Wooden post and wire fencing stretches alongside the drive in front of the carriage. The carriage sits in the drive. Two horses stand at left and face left. The carriage sits at right and carries 3 people. Behind the carriage, the mission stands tall and extends beyond the upper frame. The corner of the building stands along the back edge of the carriage and the rest of the building stretches to the left and out of frame. A doorway stands behind the horses and a couple of windows are inset into the stonework of the mission. In the far distance, a rolling field stretches towards trees. Text from negative sleeve: 1182. San Gabriel Mission, about 1896. Do not think any of these persons are of my party, unless we came out in that rig and H.H.Cooper is in front seat. Looks too stout for him.
