In the foreground, tall grasses rise and stretch across the image. Beyond that, large shrubbery stands on dirt ground. The windmill stands, right-of-center, beyond that. Its turbine faces slightly left. A structure stands adjacent to the left of the windmill. Trees stand in the distance. Text from negative sleeve: 1210. Santa Ana, California, avout [sic] 1899. Nichols Ranch. Fanny Nichols aunt Miss Kate Metrz [sic] and her brother Charles Mertz buy a ranch at Santa Ana. I went down one Sunday and spent the day and took these photos. 1.
