The woman at the right has her hand on a coat which is on top of the legs of the woman in the center. All three women wear hats. A man and a woman sit further down the bench. There are other people throughout. A sign at the top of a wooden post reads, "Montgomery." There are trees and a flagpole in the background. Text from negative sleeve: 1365. Iowa State picnic, Lincoln Park, Los Angeles, Feb. 24, 1940. 1. L to R: Mr Kelly. Charles Wheeler. Wheeler told me that he lived across the creek from Hank Palmer, who was Sheriff, and lived at the jail on the creek. Said the worst fight he saw when a boy in Red Oak, Iowa, was between Elmer Sumpter and H. H. West. 2. Iowa State picnic headquarters. 3. Montgomery County headquarters.
