West's Buick is in the foreground at left. It is viewed at a slight angle from the rear and extends out of frame. Ahead of it and to the right, a sign stands in front of a bridge that curves towards the right. The sign reads, "APPLEGATE RIVER," and "OREGON U. S. 199." Beyond the sign and in the near distance at right, a truss bridge stands. It is partially obscured by brush in the foreground. Behind the truss bridge, a pine-covered hillside rises in the distance at right. Text from negative sleeve: 1617. Yellowstone trip 1942. Thursday, July 2, 1942. 1. After leaving Jacksonville and going down the Rogue River we found a sign reading "Los Angeles City Limits." 2. Iron bridge over the Applegate River where father says he mined. 3.
