Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of directional road signs standing along the roadside in Cave Junction. Flat dirt ground stretches across the foreground. In the near distance at center, a clump of road signs stand, forming a square; 2 sides face towards the camera. From left to right, the signs read: "OREGON U S 199 [left pointing arrow]," "PORTLAND 306 GRANTS PASS 30 KERBY 2 [left pointing arrow]," "OREGON CAVES 20 HOLLAND 7 BRIDGE VIEW 4 [right pointing arrow]," "[left arrow] 429 SAN FRANCISCO PORTLAND 306 [right arrow] [left arrow] 143 EUREKA GRANTS PASS 30 [right arrow] [left arrow] 56 CRESCENT CITY KERBY 2 [right arrow]," "OREGON U S 199 [left pointing arrow]," and "OREGON U S 199 [right pointing arrow]." A road stretches behind the signs on a slightly upward angle from left to right. On the far side of the road and behind the signs, a motel stands, left-of-center. It is viewed at an angle from the front and side. The road signs obscure the front of the building. On the side of the building, "CAFE," is painted over a window. Atop the roof, a sign for "CABINS" stands. A truck is parked in front of the building and behind the road signs. Text on the truck reads, "Pierce." Tall pines stand in the background. Text from negative sleeve: 1618. Yellowstone trip, 1942. Thursday, July 2, 1942. 1. Cave Junction. Junction of roads for the Oregon Caves. 2. Big Water Wheel at Cave Junction. 3. Great big mail boxes on the road to Oregon Caves. 3 films. [Note: In all instances of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3.]
