The road stretches from the lower right on an upward angle towards center, disappearing behind H. H. West's parked Buick. Standing on both sides of the road are redwood trees. On the left side of the road and in the distance, Mertie West stands in front of the Buick. She faces towards the left. The Buick is parked behind her and is viewed from the front. Redwoods extend into the background. Text from negative sleeve: 1620. Yellowstone trip, 1942. Friday, July 2, 1943. 1. Crescent City. Calif. Our Auto Camp, with my car in the rear. I had a flat tire here and changed it right where it is standing. 2. Down thru the Redwoods. Mertie West in front of car. Wonderful drive today. 3. Lane's Flat. Mertie West looking at the swimming pool. 4. The night before the Fourth of July and we had to take a tent for sleeping quarters. Our tent and car at Lane's Flat. 4 films [Note: In the first instance of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3. The day of the second instance of the date also contains a handwritten "2" over a typed 3. The wrong portion of the date may have been corrected, the correct date would be July 3, 1942 as the trip was taken in 1942, not 1943.]
